While there is a handful of patients who come to Queer Conception with a friend in mind for there sperm donor, there are many cases in which a couple wishes to not personally be familiar with their child’s biological father.
If you are interested in pursuing an anonymous donor, you would need to schedule a consult to go over how our donor sperm program works & detailing requirements, as well as being assigned a recipient coordinator. If you would like to schedule a complementary recipient consult click here.
Queer Conception is in the process of growing its own sperm bank for clients around the nation to access.
All of QC’s sperm donors are anonymous, but the donors usually provide a childhood picture as well as personal demographics (i.e., hair color, height, ethnicity, etc.), and background information (education, medical history, etc) that are included in our donor database. In some cases, if the donor agrees, we offer voice recordings of interviews with the donor. In some cases, recipients can find out if previous pregnancies have resulted from that donor’s sperm.
In the case of a known donor (i.e., a friend or family member), you will still need to have an infertility work-up. In addition, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires a 6-month quarantine of the sperm sample period in order for the us to test the donor sperm for sexually-transmitted diseases at our main fertility and research clinic; freeze the sperm; and release the sperm back to your regional facility.
After you select the donor and the quarantine period has passed, we will then thaw the sperm and analyze it in our lab. From there, you will undergo an intrauterine insemination (IUI) or in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycle using the donated sperm. Additional frozen sperm specimens can be kept at our center for future use.
We make every effort to find a donor that the recipient couple will feel entirely comfortable with and we guide you through this difficult and unique process. Using the information provided by you about your preferences, priorities, and exclusions, we try to identify donors who meet those requirements in a general way and who are available within your time frame. We then provide you with detailed personal, family, educational, and medical information about a few donors and the final selection is made jointly. We give you as much information as we can without compromising confidentiality.
While our website is a fantastic resource to learn about the basics of fertility, and the treatment plans offered at Queer Conception, remember that we are here to help along any step of the way. Therefore, please feel free to continue browsing our site, but if you come across any questions or are ready to get started with a free one-hour consultation, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
